Questions about adaptive background music
Mudy is an iPhone app designed for that. It listens to live speech, uses the story's current context to assess the mood, and selects music with smooth transitions. It is not a page-scanning app or an ebook reader.
Is there an app that changes background music while I read aloud?
Mudy is an iPhone app designed for that. It listens to live speech, uses the story's current context to assess the mood, and selects music with smooth transitions. It is not a page-scanning app or an ebook reader.
How does Mudy decide which music fits a story?
On-device Foundation Models assess how positive or negative the current scene feels and how much dramatic musical drive it needs. Recent story context helps interpretation. A small stability margin avoids changing tracks after every sentence. AI can misread a passage, so manual mood selection remains available.
Can I use Mudy for tabletop role-playing games?
Yes. You can let it listen to spoken narration or choose a mood manually. Analysis follows the speech it hears, so table chatter may affect the result. Lock the music when you want to keep the soundtrack without further listening.
Does Mudy record or upload my voice?
The release app uses live speech processing and on-device scene analysis. It does not create voice recordings or upload story text to a Mudy backend. Current story context is held in memory for the session and cleared by reset or when the app ends.
Does Mudy need the internet?
Speech and scene analysis are designed to run locally once the required Apple resources are available. Internet may be needed to download those resources, buy or restore music packs, and download purchased music. Downloaded packs can be used offline.
Which iPhones can run Mudy?
Mudy needs iOS 26 or later and an Apple Intelligence-compatible iPhone. Apple Intelligence must be enabled and its on-device model available. Model and speech support vary by language, region and device; the app shows availability before listening.
Can I choose music manually instead?
Yes. Use the mood tabs or swipe to select a mood. The lock control stops listening and analysis while allowing the music to continue. Play and Pause control music and listening together; reset is available in Settings.
Is Mudy free, and are music packs subscriptions?
The app and Standard Pack are free. Optional music packs are individual one-time in-app purchases, not subscriptions. Apple shows the local price before purchase. Purchased packs download separately and can be restored using the same Apple account.
Does Mudy generate new music with AI?
No. Mudy selects from prepared, looping music tracks. Apple's on-device model analyzes the story; it does not compose or stream a new song for every sentence.
Can Mudy export a podcast or an audiobook with music?
No. This version is a live soundtrack companion, not a recording, editing, mixing or export tool. Playing music in Mudy does not by itself grant rights to redistribute the tracks in a published recording.
How do I stop the music from overpowering my voice?
Begin with a moderate music volume. Place an external speaker away from the iPhone microphone if you use one. Give the microphone a clear path to your voice, and test recognition with the room and speaker you actually plan to use.
Can I use a different reading language from my iPhone's language?
Yes. Choose the reading language in Settings. A translated website or App Store listing does not guarantee speech or analysis support for that language; the app checks the Apple resources available on your device.
